    Lay the mats out in a ventilated space (garage with the door open, or outdoors) for about a week, scrub both sides with a vinegar solution or a degreaser like Simple Green, and run a fan to move air across them. The odor fades to background levels within one to three weeks; rolled rubber and sulfur-free tiles smell far less to begin with.

    What do you put under home gym flooring?

    Over a sealed concrete slab you usually need nothing under loose-lay rubber. On a porous or damp slab, seal it first or leave a small perimeter gap so moisture can escape. On a second floor or over carpet, add a foam or acoustic underlay beneath 1/2–3/4″ rubber to decouple impact noise from the room below.

    Can you drop weights on foam tiles?

    No. EVA foam tiles are for cardio, stretching, and kids’ areas — under a barbell or heavy dumbbells they compress and dent permanently, and they can slide apart during dynamic movement. If you’ll ever drop weight on a spot, use 3/4″ rubber there instead.
