Editorial Policy

Last updated: June 17, 2026

Garage Iron HQ exists to help people build better home gyms with clear, honest, data-driven recommendations. This Editorial Policy explains how we work, how we make money, and the standards we hold ourselves to — so you can judge our recommendations on their merits. It pairs with our research & scoring methodology and our Affiliate Disclosure.

Editorial Independence

Our rankings are not for sale. We do not sell gear, we do not accept payment for placement, and no brand, retailer, or advertiser can buy a higher score, a better ranking, or a more favorable verdict. Manufacturers do not review or approve our articles before publication. Every recommendation reflects our own independent analysis — full stop. When a product earns a top spot, it earned it on the rubric, not in a sponsorship deal.

How We Make Recommendations

Our recommendations are driven by structured analysis rather than guesswork. Every product we recommend is evaluated against a consistent, transparent rubric — the Garage Iron Score — that weighs build quality, value for the money, warranty and support, and the consensus of verified owners and credible expert sources. We apply the same criteria to every product in a category so comparisons are fair and repeatable. You can read exactly how the score is calculated on our methodology page.

We also publish balanced verdicts. No product is perfect, so every review names real trade-offs and drawbacks alongside the strengths. If a category has no genuinely good option at a given price or use case, we say so.

Affiliate-Relationship Transparency

Garage Iron HQ is reader-supported. Some of our outbound links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission when you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. Those commissions fund our research and keep the Site free. This is the only thing that lets us stay independent of paid placements.

Crucially, affiliate relationships never affect our rankings or scores. We score products before we consider commissions, and a higher (or nonexistent) commission never moves a product up our list. Where it matters, we will recommend the better product even when it pays us less — or nothing at all.

Sourcing Standards

We research, we don’t fabricate. Our analysis is built from cross-checked, high-credibility sources: manufacturer specifications, technical documentation, warranty terms, pricing data, the consensus of large volumes of verified owner reviews, and reputable expert and scientific publications. When evidence conflicts, we favor the most credible and most current sources and note meaningful disagreements.

To be clear about what we do and don’t do: we analyze specifications, value, warranty, and owner and expert consensus. We do not claim to have personally hands-on tested every product we cover. Where our conclusions rest on aggregated owner experience and published data, we describe it that way. We would rather be transparent about our method than overstate it.

Corrections and Updates

The home-gym market changes — prices shift, models get revised, warranties change, and specs are updated. We treat our content as living documents. Articles carry a visible “last updated” date so you know how current the information is, and we re-verify our money guides on a regular cadence. If we get something wrong, we fix it: spotting an error, please email us, and we will correct verified mistakes promptly and update the page rather than quietly leaving stale information in place.

No AI-Generated Fake Personas

Garage Iron HQ is an independent, faceless publication, and we keep it honest. We do not invent fictional reviewers, fake testers, stock-photo “experts,” or AI-generated personas to imply hands-on experience we don’t have. We do not stage fake testing photos or fabricate “we tried it” claims. Our original assets are our data analysis, charts, and scoring graphics — never synthetic people. Our credibility rests on transparent methodology and verifiable sourcing, not on a manufactured face.
